Bastrop County Black Chamber of Commerce was founded and established on June 19th, 2025, in Bastrop County by Joseph B. Thompson. Culminated at Ham Bonz Soul Food restaurant during the first ever State of the Black Community town hall dinner where black leaders including the first Black mayor of Bastrop, Mayor Ishmael Harris, the first Black mayor of Elgin, Mayor Theresa McShan, and other elected black leaders and community leaders discussed our current state of affairs and a path forward.
The Bastrop County Black Chamber of Commerce is governed by its active members. Our active members elect five Board Members on a staggered three-year basis, who then elect officers, to lead and carry out the mission of the Chamber and represent the Chamber within the community. Board members will be announced soon.
